Wei Yan was born in Beijing, China , now works and resides in Oakville,Ontario Canada. He is a contemporary abstract artist who is marked by pouring or splashing colour and rich texture. His creations are rooted in Eastern philosophy and traditional calligraphy, and at the same time integrate the experimental expression of Western art language to form a unique visual poetics that transcends cultural boundaries.
Before He graduated from fine art department of Capital Normal University of Beijing, China, he studied Chinese calligraphy since childhood, regards the dialectical relationship between "empty" and "structure" as the core of art. His works abandon the narrative of traditional painting and build a multi-dimensional spiritual field through the collision of layers of pigments, splashed colors and multi-media materials. Each painting is an exploration of the "Harmony relationship between nature and mankind " - in the randomly flowing ink color, the chaos and order of the universe, the restlessness of human nature and the tranquility of divinity are frozen on the canvas. This creative process itself is a kind of practice: he often uses himself as a metaphor for "commander", controlling the rhythm in the torrent of color, and capturing the spiritual light between the occasional textures.
Wei's abstract art is deeply influenced by traditional Eastern philosophy and pursues the realm of "ethereal ". He said frankly, "Art should convey the divinity and awaken the compassion and nobility of life." Through extreme color tension and texture hierarchy, his works guide viewers to transcend visual appearance and enter the introspective meditation space. Whether it is the passion poured out when splashing the color, or the restraint that accumulates in the repeated superposition, it is his question of the "meaning of existence".
During the epidemic, Wei's artistic practice showed more social care. He redefined the social responsibility of artists by donating paintings to support the fight against the epidemic and holding online lectures and public dialogues. As he said, "Art can fill the emptiness of life and give existence warmth."
These paintings are not only a private diary of the dialogue between the artist and the universe, but also a visual symphony dedicated to the human spirit. With the heart of a poet and the hands of a craftsman, Wei Yan invited the audience to go to a carnival of color and philosophy - there, the East and the West, chaos and order, moment and eternity, finally reconciled in the ink and color.
